An exhibition titled «Sherlock Holmes! Lenfilm» has opened at the Lenfilm Studios in Saint Petersburg, marking the 95th birthday of director Igor Maslennikov and the 45th anniversary of «The Hound of the Baskervilles».

The exhibition offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the famous adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s works, created between 1979 and 1986. On display are authentic costumes, furniture, props, and photographs from the filming. Among the exhibits are items familiar to several generations of viewers through the screen portrayals by Vasily Livanov and Vitaly Solomin.

A dedicated section of the exhibition is devoted to Igor Maslennikov himself and the history of the series’ creation. Particular emphasis is placed on the geography of the filming locations: the director found his Victorian London in Leningrad and its surroundings. A special map highlights around 30 St. Petersburg addresses that were transformed into the streets of the British capital on screen.

The Soviet Sherlock Holmes has long become a part of not only Russian but also British cultural memory. In 2006, Vasily Livanov was honoured with the title of Honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire for his portrayal of the famous detective.

The exhibition at Lenfilm will run until 15 December 2026.

An exhibition dedicated to the Soviet Sherlock Holmes, one of the most recognisable heroes of Russian cinema, has opened at the legendary film studio.

[52,53

post-2457","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-the_agenda","category-top_stories

Sherlock Holmes Exhibition Opens at Lenfilm in St Petersburg - Watch Russia - EN

<meta name="description" content="Lenfilm studio in St Petersburg presents an exhibition dedicated to the iconic Soviet Sherlock Holmes series, featuring original costumes, props, photographs and filming locations.
