The Senokos Theatre Festival and the Kolomna-based Dushistyia Radosti Manufacture were honoured at the inaugural ceremony of «Hommage. Watch Russia», which took place on 12 October at the Yermolova Theatre.
In the «Homage to the Land» category, the territory is not merely a backdrop but a full-fledged part of the project—with its own character, memory, and cultural code.
The «Haymaking» festival transforms Suzdal into a part of the theatrical action. Here, the location, the performance, and the audience find themselves within a single space and a single conversation, with the city itself becoming a co-author of the events. The artistic director of the festival, Dmitry Myshkin, took to the stage to receive the diploma of laureate for the «Hommage. Watch Russia» award, honouring the transformation of Suzdal’s land into a space of contemporary art and live theatrical dialogue. In Kolomna, the «Fragrant Delights» manufactory operates in a similar manner. Project leaders Natalya Bakushina and Marina Volkova have combined ancient recipes, the history of soap making, and museum work into a functioning project – ultimately earning an award from Watch Russia magazine for the revival of Kolomna’s traditional crafts. At the award ceremony, the founders of the manufactory commented on their accolade:“Thank you so much for noticing us. The museum celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. It was hard work, but it culminated in success. Thank you!”
«Homage to the Land» highlights projects where the character of a region becomes the foundation of a cultural initiative. This category is part of the inaugural «Homage. Watch Russia» awards, alongside other categories such as Homage to a Place, Homage to Culture, Homage to Design, Homage to Initiative, Homage to Dialogue, and Homage to the Elder. In October, the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre presented a two-act ballet «The Cherry Orchard,» based on the play by Anton Chekhov.
From 23 to 28 October, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra will present all 15 symphonies by Dmitri Shostakovich at the new Shanghai Opera House, followed by bringing Verdi’s «Aida» to China, which will be shown in Asia for the first time.
The foundation of the new public library is the book collection of the distinguished Russian art historian Dmitry Sarabianov.
